Shophouse of an old watch shop

If you like my “Old King Wah Shop” post, I have another old shophouse to share with you today. This watch shop however was not as lucky as King Wah. It is no longer in business.

Shown above is a picture of the watch shop taken in 1990. The name of the shop is Kwong Hing Watch Maker. From what I found, the shop occupied the shophouse from the sixties right up to the nineties.

As you can see in the above picture, the name of the shop can be found on top of the building and on both pillars in front of the shop.

This shophouse happens to be nearby a gym that I go to and I decided to check it out one day.

Upon reaching the place, I found out that it is now a pub called Dartzplace. Though the watch shop is gone, the Chinese characters on the two pillars in front of the shop are still intact.

This pillar says “Kwong Hing watch retail”.

This one says Kwong Hing watch repair”.

The shophouse is located along South Bridge Road.

Here’s a comparison of the 2011 and the 1990 shots.
